Mitch, Allison and Emmalee,
Big Joe, the gentle giant, will be missed by so many. We always knew when Joe was in the room, not only by his physical presence but also by what he had to say. At the end of the day, Joe impacted so many in a positive way. The look on my son's face when I told him of Joe's passing was evidence of this as we fondly remembered the Sens game you all took us to.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you for your loss. Not only were we all blessed to have Joe in our lives: but, it was evident that he was also very blessed by having you guys in his.
Although his time was short, his life was full and worthy of celebration.

Dear Mitch,
Maureen and I want to send our deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family on your loss.
The first time I ever met Joe would have been in the mid 90's. Then, he was not quite the "Big Joe" that we have all come to know and love. Mike Schlater had arranged for "some gomer" who worked at one of his stores to baby sit for us one night when we were going out for dinner with Mike, and guess who showed up at our door. I believe he may have been wearing long pants!
Even then we knew there was was something special about Joe. He didn't actually volunteer to sit for us, but he did introduce us to his younger sister, whom he did volunteer. I think Joe was her business manger, or something to that effect.
Over the years we got to know Joe pretty well, and the one phrase that I would use to describe him is a "Gentle Giant". There wasn't a mean bone in his body.....thank the Lord for that!! Joe would give you the shirt off his back, which of course you could use to clothe your whole family!
Joe was simply one of the nicest and most generous persons I have ever met. I have a giant sized hole in my heart!

Joe and I met in our teens while square dancing in Penticton, BC. We had the kind of friendship that didn't need constant contact, we were there for each other. An example? Just before the 2010 Olympics, Joe called me to ask "what are you doing tomorrow?" He needed me to alter his Team Canada jersey cause it didn't come in 'his' size. He and his friend Jason spent the afternoon snoozing on my couch while I sewed for him, I smile when I see pictures of him at the numerous hockey games he attended. He wore his Canada jersey with pride.
We asked Joe to be our son's god father. The reason? We didn't know anyone else should go out of his way to help if it was needed. His didn't hesitate to say yes, his only question was "I gotta wear pants don't I?" So he shopped for long pants and travelled here to Vancouver. Little did we know it would be the last time we saw him.
Joe and I were not close friends in the normal sense. But we had each other's back when it mattered. I will miss his random texts and phone calls, hearing his voice saying "Heeeeey".
Looking back on our texting conversations during his cancer fight I'm so glad I told him just how much he ment to me. To his family, especially his mom, I'm so sorry for your huge (pun intended) loss. Joe was my friend, my dance partner and my rock whenever I needed him. I'm a better person for having known him.

Dear Mitch, it was a pleasurable experience for me to have a friendship with Joe develop from what began as a professional working relationship. I will forever remember Joe for the genuine, caring and strong person he was. He fought as hard as anyone could possibly imagine to stay in this world with you, Emma Lee and Allison. You and the girls brought Joe great joy and comfort with your love, and in his remaining days, peace.
Your own strength and devotion, Mitch, throughout Joe's valiant battle, are to be admired.
Best regards, John.

So sorry to hear of the passing of "Big Joe" who was such a great ambassador for our company. It was so easy to find the Canadians at the World Wide Rallies with Joe in the room. Mitch,
I was so saddened to get the news of Joe’s passing. I want you to know how much life I always got out of both his and your company. I only regret we never had the chance to have you all up to our cottage to enjoy some time together, as I know it would have brought even more joy to have known your family more intimately.
Words cannot express how sorry we are, especially for the amount of passion he showed and how much I loved debating things (even the occasional Ottawa Games) with him.
Joe was a leader and a great Domino’s ambassador and I am confident, a great man all around for you and your family.
He will be deeply missed by all of those who loved him as well as our entire organization across Canada, from which he served so much as a leader to many of those who never spoke up.
Wishing you strength, love and hugs, from some fellow Canadians.
With utmost respect and admiration,
Sharon and Brian Trier,

Sending our condolences to the family of Joe DeLeeuw. He will be missed greatly by everyone that got to know him.
We got to know Joe through Square Dancing and enjoyed his laughter and watched him grow with all the teens. We had an awesome trip to Lindsey, WA for a competition with the group of teens and won the competition. Lots of laughs and stress during practices but always had a positive attitude and encouraged everyone to do their best.
Rest in Peace Joe.

This has been a long journey for your family and our family sends condolences and love. Joe was special to so many people and had so much love to share. As I said before Mitch, I truly believe you were put into Joe's life by God because He believed you were the best person to be with Joe through his medical journey. We never want to let go of those we love. God did answer our prayers, he is at peace without suffering and you will be reunited one day with one of his great big hugs. I had never seen Joe happier than when he was with you!
