Hello Joan, Kathryn, Laura and family. This morning I just heard the news in Australia about the passing of beautiful Art. As soon as I heard, I started making plans to travel to Canada for the funeral service however I later found that the funeral service is being held tomorrow so logistically I will not be able to attend. As a 15 year old exchange student, I can confidently say that Art shaped my life and had a profound impact on the way I lived my life. He was certainly like a father figure to me and I absolutely loved the time that I spent with your Dad. He taught me a great deal about compassion, helping others, love for your community and how to be the best person you can be. I am so pleased that my husband and daughters got to meet you all a couple of years ago and that we were able to see the legacy that your Dad has left with the Manor and Hospice. I will always appreciate Art travelling to Australia for my wedding and I wish I was there to support you all during this sad and emotional time. My thoughts are with you all. Lots of Love always, Jo

I had the pleasure of being a classmate of Art’s at the University of Ottawa Medical School. We both chose Family Medicine as our career. It was clear even in those formative years that he would become a talented and empathetic doctor. At periodic reunions we learned of the developments that he pioneered that greatly enhanced the care provided to people in the Renfrew area. This information was conveyed in the modest self effacing manner that was his way. His work in the establishment of a palliative program is particularly impressive. I am very proud to be a member of a profession that has Art Dick as a model example of what an ideal family doctor should be. Sincere condolences to Joan and family.

Dr. Dick was such a compassionate, caring person. I had the privilege of watching the Hospice become a reality alongside Dr. Dick, then to work alongside Dr. Dick for 2 years. This is indeed sad news. For all of my 35 years in Rotary, Art was mentor and friend who embodied the true spirit of selfless ‘Service above Self.’ In many ways, Art was Renfrew Rotary. Especially in the 1980’s and 1990’ he was active in showing the way for Rotary and led the club to broaden its horizons internationally. He was a leader in the PolioPlus fundraiser and other worldwide causes. At a time when the Club members tended to view that local needs came first and a wider world second, he continued to make sure that we also include all.
Locally, he championed fundraising for the hospital, the Manor and Hospice and endless other community and worldwide needs.
A multi-Paul Harris Fellow, his serving others was more important for him to give and not receive to the extent that he qualified for additional Paul Harris Fellowships which he never even applied for any of these.
A family man, a community leader, a caring person, a doctor and a friend to all.
God bless his soul. He did so much good.
