Obituary of Mary Alice Mulvenna
After a long and wonderful life, Aunt Mae (Mary Alice Mulvenna) passed away in her 109th year on August 30th. Born in Eganville in 1906, her life's work was dedicated to serving the Pembroke dioceses in the parishes of Maynooth, Mount Saint Patrick, and Renfrew Ontario. She is predeceased by her parents John Mulvenna and Elizabeth Grogan, her brothers Neil, John, Harold and Basil and her sister Bernadette McCann. Orphaned at a young age, she was welcomed into the loving home of the Brady family, her chosen parents the late Mary Queally & John Brady of Eganville and their son Father Tom Brady (most influential in her life). She played a special role in the lives of her many nieces and nephews, the McCanns: Terry and Mary (Pembroke), Jim and Diane (Pembroke), Edwin and Mary (Renfrew), Mary and Jim Michaud (Ottawa), Andy and Janice (Pembroke), Harry and Carolyn (Smith Falls), Peter and Nancy (Pembroke), Frank and Judy (Ottawa) and, Danny and Ruth (Pembroke). Pre-deceased by Tom & Patrick. She also leaves many many grand and great grand nieces and nephews, an extended family (the Bonfields) Maureen and Peter Spittal (Seaforth, Ontario), Mary Jane and Alex Heggtveit (Seaforth, Ontario), close friends the Mulvenas, the Rooneys, and many others who enriched her life by their love and friendship as she enriched theirs. Blessed with a long and happy life, lived with simplicity, she was dedicated to her family and friends and committed to prayer and the spiritual life. She followed current events and sports actively, laughed generously and kept an active routine (including walking every day) up to the last days of her long and rich life. A role model for a life well lived, she was an olympian of longevity, showing what can be achieved through a determined will. A wonderful gift to her family and friends across the generations, who had the opportunity to know and be with her for so many years. In the words of her favorite Irish blessing: Until we meet again, may God keep you in the palm of His hand. Thank you to the staff at Miramichi Lodge and Riverview Heights in Pembroke for the compassionate and patient care they provided during the last years of Mae's life.
