I remember Fred as a little boy and I was so envious of Judy because she had two baby brothers and I wanted to have one too! The news about Fred was shocking and so sad. When Don called me at the end of October I knew it must be bad news and indeed the worst kind of news. He was just too young - the same age as my dad was. We always enjoyed it when Fred would drop over to the cottage by boat and occasionally I would see him when he visited his boys because they lived across the street from me.
To Barb and family, and to Judy, Dennis, Susan and Don and to the many others that I didn’t know well, my thoughts are with all of you. He will be so missed.

We hadn't seen one another for many years but I always enjoyed him when we did meet. Guy and I send our sincere sympathy to the family. He will be missed but happy memories will live on.
Sincere wishes, Diana (Wood) and Guy Steed

My deepest condolences Mrs. Runge and boys on the passing of your husband and father.
I worked at the Runge Newspapers for many years and I will never forget Fred as my boss - not just a boss but someone I considered a friend to me. He first became my boss with the merger of the Arnprior and Renfrew papers and later on offered me an opportunity to work in Carleton Place at a time in my life when things were on the gloomy side. I will never, never, forget his kindness, love of the newspaper business, and his calm an appreciative personality.
Also to all of Fred's family and friends, sorry for your deep loss. xo
Fred Runge - one of the good ones.

Barb and family, my condolences at Fred's passing. I know how hard it is to maintain the relevance of community newspapers in this day and age. We lost the Whitehorse Star after a 100 years of publishing this year and the fact he could keep the paper going successfully through modernizing is a testimony to his capabilities. I missed you both at our 50th anniversary last May. It sounds like he had a good retirement but that is no substitution for a good life cut short. The profile picture on the write up at the funeral home is bang on - ne always had a smile when we were all together at university. I always thought you both were a natural couple and wasn't surprised when you married! I always enjoyed seeing you both at many of our reunions.

I was very saddened to hear of Fred's passing, and though we hadn't crossed paths in some time, I still thought of him often.
Fred was my first "big boss" in the newspaper industry, and through the years we also became friends and I will miss the chats we had about everything from beer to golf, to strolls down memory lane about those early years at the Mercury and Chronicle-Guide.
Please accept condolences from our family to yours.

Our deepest condolences to Barb and family. Fred, Janet and I spent many hours together in our younger years when we all lived in Caledonia during Fred's time in the Haldimand-Norfolk Regional Planning Department. We have many great memories of those years including Fred and Barb's wedding in Niagara and the times when we visited with each other those many years ago. Barb, stay strong and cherish the good and many memories you have of Fred. You are in our prayers.

My sincere condolences to Barb, Graham, Alec and family. Fred took a chance on me in 1986 and employed me full time and that continued for over 20 years. I would not be where I am today if he had not taken that chance. For that I am forever great full . Fred taught me how to drink scotch on my 40th birthday at an annual ski trip (la Brie Ski) at Mt Tremblant and the rest is history. I was glad to have had a friendship outside of work. Going to miss seeing you on the ski hills and having little chats..rest in peace Fred

We are so sorry to hear of Fred's passing, what a great person he was, also the best boss we ever worked for. Remembering the Fridays he would do his valley run leaving our place in Arnprior at that time, sit back have a few beers, eat supper, had some super times with him and you,
He will be sorely missed by us. Our hearts go out to you and your family. He will never be forgotten
