Obituary of John Van Woezik
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Van Woezik at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the age of 90. John will be forever remembered by his children Betty Anne (Klaus Schwarz), Tony, Lynda (Loring Phinney) , Pat and their mother Doris Callaghan. Proud and loving grandfather of Rachel, Spencer and Grace. Eldest brother of Agnes Lynch (late Harold); Thea Wilson (late Bob); Mary Humphries (late Glen); and Kevin (Sharleen). Predeceased by his parents Anthony and Anna Van Woezik and his sister Ilse Vooght (late Jack).
Immigrating from the Netherlands to Canada with his parents and siblings after WW2, 15-year-old John learned English, became a Canadian citizen and built a life in the beautiful Ottawa Valley. His career spanned several decades at Haley Industries where he was well respected for his work ethic and mechanical skills, but it was a love of the land that had him also farming 200 acres just outside the town of Douglas. At 60, he acquired his pilot’s license and flying the local skies became his favourite past-time.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Renfrew on Thursday September 12th, 2024 at 10:30 am. Interment Parish Cemetery. Donations in memory of John can be made to the Dementia Society.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St. S., Renfrew Ontario. Online condolences/donations: www.gouletfuneralhome.com.
