Barend and Angela, words cannot express our thoughts when we learned that Patrick was the 15 year old we read about earlier. Our deepest sympathies go out to you; we cannot begin to understand the loss you are experiencing and will continue to experience over the coming days and months. We will pray for you!
Marja, we can only attempt to share the hurt you are experiencing. We lost a precious granddaughter when she was almost 15. We knew she wasn't well but were not prepared even then. For you this is so sudden - at 15 it seems life is just beginning. We will continue to pray for you and the rest of your family as you go through this time of deep grief and loss. Look to God for strength even as you question this traumatic event.
Matthijs, our thoughts and prayers to you as you will surely miss a buddy, a nephew and co-worker. I will remember the hours that young man put in on the farm - he was still a boy and yet what a man!

Angela and Barend, I am the school bus driver of all 4 of your children. I am so shocked and sorry for your tragic loss on Thursday. I last saw Patrick on Wednesday, as he and Hannah left the bus, both of them politely saying Thank you, as they ALWAYS do. Patrick was extremely well liked on the bus. The other boys in the back of the bus all gravitated to him. They rearranged their seating when Patrick boarded. To me, Patrick seemed a very happy and well rounded young man. He was enormously proud to be a van Lindenberg. He loved farming, school, driving any machine and his fulfilling life in general. I lost a brother who was 15 years old many years ago. It's physically painfully for the survivors. The thing that got me through it was family. You have a golden family. Lean on each other and take all the time you need to heal. His memory will never fade away. To Hannah, Jonah and Leila, I feel your pain. Talk with others when you feel up to it, and don't talk when you want privacy. And, Bo Good. That will help a lot. May God bless Patrick and you, his family.
