Uncle Jerry welcomed us into his family when we first met him in Canada in 2006. He had carved me a special birthday plaque which is still on the wall in my bedroom and a special place in my heart ❤️ Jerry always had time for us every holiday spent in Canada and we will miss him.
Sending all our love to Karen, Colleen & Steve at this sad time xxx

Gerry was a great friend of my grandfather and my family. He was someone who always had a twinkle in his eye and a can-do attitude to everything. My family and I will always remember him as the boss of our summers at Whip-poor-will, a beautiful place he created out of his own hard work and generosity of spirit. I know his family will miss all his energy and humour, and so will mine. With much love always, Alysia.

My first encounter with Jerry Cockwell was standing next to my sister at Ottawa Airport in April 2004. This was the first time I had connected with my Canadian relatives. We exchanged greetings and off we went to their home in Renfrew. Jerry did not stop talking the whole way home telling me many things. We made one stop of course at Tim Hortons. But what I remember most was fishing in Canada and Florida. On one occasion I was in the boat at the dock, Jerry was waiting to start the motor so I pushed out into the lake waiting for the motor to start.but I turned round and no Jerry! He had jumped out to go to the toilet! So I had to paddle like mad with my hands back to the dock. One other memory I was sitting on the balcony and Jerry appeared gun in hand. Bang! He shot a skunk in the front lawn. He got me to hold the sack whilst he dropped it in. The smell hung around for the rest of my visit. I will miss you my little general. Lots of love to my wonderful sister Karen xxx

Jerry was such a kind, gentle and funny man.
Jerry took the time when my family and I were visiting from England to teach me about fishing. I have a fond memory of my dad and I catching two fish at the same time and both not knowing what to do, so dangled them above Jerry’s head whilst he jumped up trying to unhook them.
Rest in Peace Jerry, lots of love..

I first met Jerry when I was 5 years old and I fondly remember his warm nature and captivating personality. Jerry always had so many entertaining and engaging stories that only made his personality shine through even more. Jerry taught me and my sister to fish, he taught me about hunting and most importantly him and Karen also taught me how to make peanut butter cookies! Karen & Jerry demonstrated a loving relationship and welcoming home whenever we visited Canada. I saw how much he doted on his granddaughters and the immense joy he got when they were around him. The last time I saw Jerry in 2022 he took me and my partner to his vegetable patch at their apartment and without a word gave us a tomato to try, he was very proud of the garden and wanted to share it. It was such a sweet moment and took me back to being 5 years old.
Rest peacefully Jerry, thank you for sharing your love with me and my family. Sending lots of love to your family.

Back in 2005, after months of searching, I found my Dads long lost Canadian family- Karen, Brian and Linda. They and their spouses were so very welcoming to the English invasion that was to shortly follow. I’m forever grateful to Jerry for welcoming us into his life with warmth, kindness and generosity. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your dynasty Jerry and thank you for our Calabogie adventures. It was wonderful to see you again Jerry in the summer of 2022 and introduce you to my granddaughter. May you rest in peace and know that you were loved, appreciated and are missed. Alison Slater xxx

My sincerest condolences to the Family of Gerry.
I first met Gerry in 1990. I have never been the same since. He always kept me on my toes. He was not shy.
During conversations we always ended up talking about one of his favorite meals. Some of you may be aware of this
(Wild Life Stew) This could be anything. He never did give me the recipe.
That aside, Gerry always strived to make the world a better place to live. his commitment to Family and Friends was always there.
You will be missed Gerry. Time to take a rest.

My sincere condolences to Karen and the whole Cockwell family. Jerry was the most enthusiastic District Governor during his term that I have ever had the pleasure to know. One who loved his job who loved his visitations and just getting to know and work with as many Lions in District A4 as humanly possible. Good bye old friend you will certainly be missed.

Jerry always made my day when he came into the bank, whether it was to see me or just to go through the line. I thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with Jerry and Karen. Karen was the perfect partner (often foil) for Jerry and kept him going when the going was really tough. He teased me and I teased him. Rest In Peace my friend.
