As a classmate of Pete's I had the great good fortune of becoming acquainted with the Winters clan back in the 1970's, and have fond memories of enjoying their lively hospitality at the farm below Storyland, memories I'll forever carry in my heart. I have such fond memories of "Uncle" Bill and his wonderful family (Aunt Jeane, Rita, Maria, Robert as well as Harry, Peter and Louis). When Wim came to Canada from Holland, perhaps the first place he worked was on the farm of my parents, Leonard and Clare Helferty. Wim immediately became part of our family. The attached photo from Wim and Jean's wedding was taken on our farm, with my sisters standing in front of the bride and groom. The ties between our families has remained strong for more than seven decades. Wim was always committed to 'giving back', to making the community he was part of better. He contributed in countless ways, and was especially committed to improving the quality of education. He will be greatly missed. Our sympathies to Jean and the entire Winters family.
